MBFWA 2015 Runway Report: Bianca Spender, Steven Khalil and Ixiah

The dark horse of fashion week, Bianca Spender's Spring / Summer 2015 collection was the show on everybody's lips. Titled 'Le Sacre du Printemps' or 'The Rite of Spring', this stunningly striking runway took dual inspiration from birds of flight and the movement of ballet dancers. One of her most visually stunning collections to date, each piece drew us in and left us breathless. There was an overall feeling of weightlessness on the runway seen through her light fabrics and flowing lines where Bianca continues explore techniques of structure vs fluidity. A gentle dancer's colour palette let the elegant and timeless designs shine on their own, it is this unassuming style that maintains Bianca Spender's must-have status in an ever-changing industry.

A designer who's been dressing the who's who of Australia for years, its obvious that Steven Khalil's runway debut to MBFWA would be spectacular. His couture designs are renowned for their elegance and beauty, combining classical elements of bygone eras with a contemporary edge. Taking a step outside of his usual red carpet creations, much to our delight we saw more accessible ready-to-wear pieces with the same timeless eyre we've come to love from Khalil. Oozing romance, softness, sophistication and youthfulness it was a show that transported us to a salon in Paris and we couldn't have been happier.

Ixiah has often been known for it's delicate beading and detailed designs, however this year's MBFWA runway appealed to a broader spectrum of already loyal fans by incorporating more muted pieces for everyday wear. Designer Krystel Davis' Spring 2015 collection saw a pleasantly surprising introduction of stripes, simple silk sets and flowing lines sitting complimentary alongside their trademark neo-tribal style aesthetic. A show held in high esteem by it's niche clientele and new found followers alike.
