DIY Hat Hooks
My wonderful husband recently gifted me with my first Akubra, if you’re an Aussie you know how iconically Australian this brand is. One of the golden rules with Akubra hats and proper cowboy hats in general is to never store it flat or it will bend out of shape! Hence the dilemma, well what can I hang it on? A normal hat hook didn’t fit. I wanted something that suited our hallway aesthetic, enter hubby Dave to the rescue with a DIY hat hook idea which upcycles old hanger wire!
What you will need:
Wire Hanger
Twine
Masking Tape
Wire Cutters
Scissors
Pliers
Working Gloves (optional)
Step 1: Cut the hanger hook off with the wire cutters as shown
Step 2: Use pliers to straighten out each bend until hanger is a straight line. Then fold it in half so it makes a 45 degree angle as shown.
Step 3: Measure out approximately 10cm (or desired length) each side and use the pliers to bend into a kind of teepee ready to create the curve.
Step 4: Bend the two wire lengths over each other to create a semi-circle.
Step 5: Bind the two curved wire pieces together with masking tape.
Step 6: Wrap the twine around the entire piece until the wire and masking tape are completely covered.
Step 7: Tie off the end of the twine with a looped hook/circle. This will be used to secure the hat hook to the wall using a small 3M invisible hook. And voila - you’re finished! Go enjoy your new hat hook!
