A Fiji Travel Diary // From Suva to Denarau
Welcome to Fiji, where the sky meets the sea and a glistening tropical paradise awaits. I can't wait to share with you my Fiji Tourism journey through this stunning island nation. Upon landing you're greeted by friendly faces and live music at the airport - something one soon learns is the happy standard of this amazing country. The capital city, Suva is a bustling hub of government and commerce with a sense of city life that is also homely and inviting. I would always suggest arriving at night as words cannot describe waking up in the morning to the stunning view that is Lami Bay. The Novotel Suva played host to many of the international guests that attended Fiji Fashion Week, with breakfast almost on top of the water each day and a pool deck to rival many it soon became home over the next few nights.
Denarau Island is a more popular place to frequent for tourists as it's close to the airport and has some of the most well-known resorts in Fiji. Although labelled an island, it still feels like the mainland. A little hub of island bliss that's close enough for all the perks of small city living as well. From the port restaurants and harbour shopping to the resorts themselves it's more than enough to keep you well-satisfied for the whole trip. Rosie Holidays half-day tour of Nadi included a visit to the renowned Garden of the Sleeping Giants, not only does it have the most beautiful orchids in the world but it's also a hidden oasis - I could've honestly spent all day exploring the secret garden paths and walking trails.
In Denarau I had the pleasure of staying at The Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, a five-star sanctuary. The great part about this hotel is that you never have to leave, they've thought of everything for you on-site. There's nightly entertainment to suit each guest whether it be a live band, a fire-lighting ceremony, the traditional cultural dance show and even an outdoor movie complete with popcorn. A personal highlight was their signature V Restaurant which offers fine-dining and delicately prepared courses to satisfy all palettes. My recommendation would be the delicious avocado mousse dessert, it might sound out-there at first but I guarantee you won't be disappointed. From spa treatments and poolside relaxation to watersports and amazing food, it was a place of serenity and fun for the whole family.
