Roopa Pemmaraju's Breakthrough 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia Show

Roopa's surprise breakout into the Aussie playing field with her Spring Summer 2012 /2013 ready-to-wear line was a raving success! With designs inspired by our country's Indigenous Aboriginal heritage it stopped you in your tracks. A collection that was far from her usual Indian kaftans, there were stunning maxi skirts, button shirts, tailored skirts, sleek maxi dresses and 60's shift dresses. The patterns, colour combinations and contrasts were winning with clear inspiration taken from the earth and Australia's natural landscape. Her iconically Australian innovative style reminded me on a young Jenny Kee and her pieces were like watching a walking art gallery. Currently working with artists from the Coee Art Gallery, Desert Designs and Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, the collection is an exciting collaboration of art and fashion. Roopa is clearly one to watch!
